Welcome to My Blog!

Being a teacher is full of ups, downs, and in betweens. I love the look on a students face when they learn how to read. I love when students can solve problems on their own. I absolutely love when students feel proud of their work, and want to share it with the class. This blog is going to be full of moments in the classroom, pictures, and sometimes videos. Take everything with a grain of salt, as it is my opinion & reflections.

Anchor Charts & Artist Skills

I'm not the best artist on the block, but boy- do I have fun with it! Today we read our story of the week, and dissected the problem/solution/characters. Fun Fun! Here's a picture of the master-piece. I am pretty sure one of my favorite things about teaching 1st grade is that all my little firsties think I am the BEST artist ever. One of my students today said "Mrs. Ramirez, did you used to teach ART?" Oh my, bless his little heart.

Table Names Giggles

So, I let the kiddoes pick out their own group names. My oh my, when other teacher's/people walk into my room they are sure going to chuckle. Here are the table names:

Transformers
Stingers
Shark Kids
Rain Storm

Oh my ! Pretty funny! Only in 1st grade.

Writer's Workshop

My favorite time of the day is Writer's Workshop. There's nothing better then walking around a room of first graders, and watching them take stories from their brains and transferring them onto paper. I also love seeing my little firsties stretching out their words, trying to spell them, and then using our Word Wall as a reference! Can't wait to see all of my first graders become Authors! -Mrs. R

Stinger Pride!

We had our first PBS pep-rally today, it was a lot of fun!  The students were able to watch a Martial Arts master demonstrate some of his moves. They also got to watch some of their peers learn how to do the moves! Awesome! After we did some KARATE we sang the school song...enjoy the video!

Read to Someone

The next Daily that we launched this week was READ to SOMEONE. This is basically a time during the day that the students are to pick a spot in the room, find a partner, and read outloud the same selection- taking turns reading. This is a fun time, but educational too! The students become more confident and proud readers. They did really awesome this week, reading to someone!

Daily 4 for Math

Daily 4 for Math are 4 different choices that the students get to pick after they have finished their chapter assignment.

1. Paper/Pencil
2. Math Zones
3. Fast Math/ Success Maker
4. Flash Cards with a Buddy

Today we rolled out MATH ZONES. We made an I-chart (Independence Chart) of the rules and procedures during Math Zones. We had a good time practicing, and following the rules. Today we practiced independently for 5 minutes. Game on, tomorrow!

Daily 5's "Read to Self"

We have been practicing the Daily 5, and we love it so far! This week, we have been working on READ to SELF. We created our I-charts, built stamina, and have really been working hard on becoming a great reader! So much fun!
These 1st graders really have it goin' on!
