Welcome to My Blog!

Being a teacher is full of ups, downs, and in betweens. I love the look on a students face when they learn how to read. I love when students can solve problems on their own. I absolutely love when students feel proud of their work, and want to share it with the class. This blog is going to be full of moments in the classroom, pictures, and sometimes videos. Take everything with a grain of salt, as it is my opinion & reflections.

Summer Weekly Assignment 3

Hi everyone! I am at a Common Core get together in Tampa, and will be headed to Boston on Wednesday!  Miss you all, and love you very much!

*Parents you can have your child do this all in one day (which is A LOT)-- or you can stretch it through out the week*

*Set your page up with your name and date on the right hand side of your paper*

1. Say our Daily Poem:

I am a kind, smart, and wonderful person.
I am a loving, thoughtful, almost 2nd grader.
I am going to do awesome things with my life.
I am a rockstar.
I am...

2. What is the word for Monday in Spanish? (Hint, sing the song in your head)

3. Read these words as fast as you can:

          sweeping
went
mother
           looked
came
spend
answer
just
looking
read
found
           ship
show
weed
study
good
also
sand
still
        common
around

4. Get out a notebook, and write or type three sentences. Pick three different words from the list of words above. I want the sentences to be strong, and detailed.

5. After you have written the sentences, practice reading them in a funny voice or like you are putting on a show.

6. Solve these Math problems, and show your work using the CUBES method:
Circle your numbers, Underline the clue words that tell you if you're adding or subtracting, Box any math words, Examine the problem before you solve, Solve away! You can do it!
A) I have seen so many things outside lately! This morning I saw twelve birds in my front yard. A car drove by and all but 4 flew away. How many birds flew away? How many birds are left over?

B) Your 9 friends all have two eyeballs. How many eyeballs do they have altogether? (Hint, you will need to draw a quick sketch.)

C) Bandit has four legs. If there were three Bandits standing in a row, how many legs would there be total? (Tricky, I know!)

7. Find one box of food in your house. What shape does this remind you of? What is something you can make with that box of food? How do you think you would make this food? List the steps you would need to take to make this.

8. Copy these sentences down with a pencil. After you have them all copied, take a pen or a marker and fix them. (Some of them are missing punctuation, capital letters, and some have spelling mistakes!)

a) i dont like her at al cuz she mean
b) you are the nicess because you help me read

8. Extra Challenge: We all have our favorite animals. I think that dogs are the cutest. Write a debate convincing me of your favorite animal. Record this debate and email to me if you can. (mrs.ramireza@gmail.com)

Mrs. Ramirez
