Welcome to My Blog!

Being a teacher is full of ups, downs, and in betweens. I love the look on a students face when they learn how to read. I love when students can solve problems on their own. I absolutely love when students feel proud of their work, and want to share it with the class. This blog is going to be full of moments in the classroom, pictures, and sometimes videos. Take everything with a grain of salt, as it is my opinion & reflections.

What a Week!

What’s the BUZZ in 1st Grade?

We have been non-stop learning while we have been counting down the days until Christmas vacation. We have been having a blast, since we have been adding in an extra perk of Christmas into everyday with our countdown.

Reading:

· We focused on a literary study of Poetry all week

· We practiced reading poetry with rhythm, fluency, accuracy, and expression

· We filled our brains with so many types of poems (funny, serious, and expressive)

Math:

· This week we have been focusing on Common Core math, which has really challenged us to think outside of the box

Writing:

· We have been putting the finishing touches on our How-Tobooks, and will hopefully have them published by next week

Science

· We finished our Science Fair board!

· We conducted an awesome experiment on dirty pennies, and figured out that Lemon Juice cleans the best! (You can see pictures of the experiment on the blog)

Announcements:

· There will be no new lessons next week, as it will be a crazy and full week, and therefore no new homework at all next week

· All library books are due Tuesday 12/18, so don't be alarmed when your child doesn't come home with a new book.

· Please look at the Countdown to remember what we are doing each day

· Half-Day’s on Thursday 12/20 and Friday 12/21

· Our Christmas Party will be on the last full day Wednesday 12/19, but don't worry we have it covered– just send your child in with a book if possible.

· If you want a conference with me, please send me a note so I can schedule accordingly

Wow! 1 week down!

This morning it felt like a holiday when I received the Ipods and Ipads I wrote a grant for last year! It is so exciting. We have 23 Ipods- 1 for each student, and also reliable Otterbox cases! I am so excited.

I cannot wait to get them unpacked, and up and working so the kids can start learning with them. I will be piloting this use of technology, and I truly feel it will make an impact on the sweet first graders in our rooms.

I've never seen their eyes get SO big before when I brought one out to show them.

What a week! Your little darlings have made it to  first grade, and they have survived their first half-of-week! I am so excited to have your precious children in my first grade class. We learned so much, and worked, worked, worked on rules and procedures! Thank you for ALL you do!

Reading:

-We practiced the READ TO SELF , and built our stamina. (Ask your child what STAMINA and INDEPENDENCE are!)

Math:

-We have been working on an oral review of math facts, and next week we will start Mountain Math!

Writing:

-We worked on a free write, and practiced writing about anything. Next week we  will launch WRITERS WORKSHOP!

Announcements:

-Please send in your framed picture, if you haven't done so already!

-Please send back the “ABOUT ME” bag with your “firstie”

-Please send your child with a water bottle– as it is very hot outside.

-Curriculum night will be in September, so if you  have any questions until then– please don't hesitate to call or email me!

Easter Wishes, and Newsletter

I wish you all such a wonderful Easter, full of memories, joy, and time with your family. We had such a busy day today! Thank you Ms. Harper, the Negron's, and my Mom we had some sweet treats today! What a fun afternoon, sugar-filled, and time to chat with our peers! It's always neat when you give the students a little time to "chat," watching them interact and try their hardest to be "ladies," and "gentlemen" in their actions, and words. Although, I am looking forward to the long weekend... it's been another fun day in 1st grade, and another day that I LOVE MY JOB!
