White Blood Cells, Oh My!
Today Lifesouth put on a presentation that focused on none other than blood (the purpose, definition, and varieties of blood and body systems.) The students were able to do an experiment with koolaid, tictacs, and other goodies. It was educational and awesome for the kids.

Halloween Experiments & Fall Festival
Well we had quite a week last week! We had a more than successful FALL FESTIVAL! We had an amazing turnout from the teachers, and volunteers. (My brother is pictured above, and he was one of the awesome volunteers, as was Mr. Ramirez!) It was great to see some of my students and their families there!
We had a very special friend come and see us on Friday! It was awesome! He popped in, and put a big smile on all of our faces.
The students had to reach into mystery bags for Halloween...it was pretty gross and hilarious to watch their reactions. They felt cold lo-mein noodles, sticky rice, bean sprouts, slimy gummy worms and string cheese! They had to use their senses and write educated guesses. Mr. Howard and his awesomeness volunteered to help with this experiment. We SO appreciated it!
With much needed help, Mr. Howard also helped us make some ooey-gooey slime in honor of the spooky holiday.

Science Experiments & Penguins
We conducted a science experiement for the Science Fair investigating which cleaner would make a dirty penny the cleanest, and shiniest. We went through the steps, listing the procedure, materials, etc. We had some strange suggestions for cleaners such as ketchup, coke, etc. however, we found out....that LEMON JUICE actually makes the penny the cleanest. We didn't get too many pictures as we were SO into the experiment. Enjoy, and stay tuned for the science fair board.
We also learned about Penguins today!
Today was a day that we studied penguins! We studied their habitats, their
climate preference, and learned about different types of penguins. We learned that the word for Penguin in Spanish is Pingüino, and we had fun practicing that today. We created crafts, and verbally showed proof of our learning. It was a fun and eventful day today!Reminder:
Wear RED tomorrow for Rudolph day!

Comparing Plants & Animals (More to Come!)
During Science today, I allowed them to compare Plants and Animals. I wanted them to dig deep into their brains and compare plants and animals- think about how they were the same, and contrast them- searching how they were different. I then had them find a quiet spot in the room, and record a video based off of what they wrote in their journals. Love these little precious kids! (More videos to come!)

Oil Drip Pan & Science Observations
Who knew you could go to the automotive section of Wal-mart, buy an OIL-DRIP PAN, stick some velcro on the back and make it educational!?
They are using magnet letters to build their high frequency words.
Awesome!
Also, we went outside at the end of the day to observe the biggest star in the sky (the sun!) We used adjectives like bright, humungous, shining, etc. to describe the star.

Singing Science!
We are learning all about the SKY, and to introduce the topic, we sang a song! How much fun! I have some REAL singers in this class. Love days like this.
