Hey Ya'll!
This week was jam-packed.
Our Week in a Nutshell:
Reading- In Reading this week we literally learned so many new high-frequency words, read our story of the week "The Van," and practiced the /an/ and /at/ chunk sounds. We built new words with our chunks of the week /an/ and /at,/ and made an anchor chart of the Problem & Solution of our story. Whoa! To top it off, we had a CONNECTION PARADE around the classroom, while making connections for our story of the week!
Math- In Math this week we finished Chapter 1 (All About Addition) and will venture into Subtraction next week.
Science- We learned all about the earth changing (volcanoes, earthquakes, erosion, & weathering.)
Writing- Most of the students finished their first piece of writing, and today we will be fixing/fancying them up, to hopefully add to our Writer's WALL OF FAME.
Announcements:
- I have half of the classes’ parent conferences done! Woo-hoo! The other half will start next week.
- Friday's are school spirit days, the colors of our school are BLUE & WHITE, so if you child has a blue shirt at home, send them wearing it on Fridays, only if possible, of course!
- The rule of thumb with the AR book is: Your child should be bringing a book home EVERY NIGHT and bringing that book BACK IN to school the next day. If they are ready for the test, I'd like them to test on the book, go to the library and get a new book, and repeat the process of bringing it home, and bringing it back to school the next day. I would like all students to take & pass AT LEAST 2 AR test a week.
- I am sending home new MATH homework today, which will be due on Friday 9-16 (2 weeks from today)
- The half-sheet of paper that I send home with the vocab/spelling/phonics: that is the STUDY GUIDE that you will get weekly to coincide with the words we are learning in class. So for example, I will be sending home a new one today that says "Big Rigs" at the top, you can get rid of your old one from last week, put the Big Rig one on your refrigerator for your child to study each day until the following Friday.
- All tests are given on FRIDAY, so Fridays are really tough days for a child to miss school, because then they have to come back on Monday, and make-up all the tests they missed on the previous Friday.
No School on Monday, September 5th
