Welcome to My Blog!

Being a teacher is full of ups, downs, and in betweens. I love the look on a students face when they learn how to read. I love when students can solve problems on their own. I absolutely love when students feel proud of their work, and want to share it with the class. This blog is going to be full of moments in the classroom, pictures, and sometimes videos. Take everything with a grain of salt, as it is my opinion & reflections.

Good Week!

We had a great week learning about different phonic sounds, and reading about a strong ant. The lesson of the week is, "although we are small, we are mighty!"

Guest Reader with a Suit & Tie!

Today we had a guest reader, who is a great friend of mine, and Mr. Ramirez, and son of a teacher at our school.  He was stopping by to visit his mom, and was kind enough to pop in and read us a story. The students loved his attire, and were excited that he was wearing a suit and tie! We had a great discussion about attire, and then he read us a book about a silly Grandma and Grandpa doing all sorts of comical things. After he read the book, the students of room 105 interviewed him, asking him many questions ranging from jobs, to favorite store. We were so excited for some spur of the moment entertainment for my 2nd graders- it was more than appreciated!

Not a Manic Monday!

It was the opposite of a Manic Monday! These kids are blowing me away with their capabilities. Today was Red, White, and Blue day- because tomorrow we will be talking all about the Constitution. In Reading we talked about Ants, and activated our schema by doing a group concept map on the whiteboard of what we know/learned about Ants. I have some students who have interviewed people, and created a story board for a movie. This group of students began editing today- so that is exciting! I can't wait to see the final outcome. Thanks for all you do to support us!
Remember: Picture Day is tomorrow 9/17
Love,
Mrs. Ramirez

9/11 Day in the life of a 2nd grader

Hello! Well yesterday (9/11) was a somber day, but it is always enlightening to teach such sweet innocent students about the events, because somehow they can still see the good in a bad situation. We focused on hope, courage, and heroes. We made a chart on heroes, after doing multiple read alouds about 9/11, for students. Some of the answers of who their heroes were, were beyond precious..."My papa is my hero because he protects me from snakes!" Love their little minds! After that, my brother came to volunteer his time with us, and we donated all but five minutes of our recess time to do a good act in honor of 9/11...and we picked up trash all around the school. I even had some students that didn't want to play for the last five minutes of recess, instead they continued to pick up trash. WOW.  (Don't worry, we washed our hands thoroughly after!) Then, we came back inside and we decided that we were going to build the towers back up with hope, and ideas of how we can be an everyday hero. It turned out beautiful. Thank you for all you do, and thank you for sending your sweet child into school ready to learn. each and everyday.

A sweet student of mine from last year, who brought me in a beautiful rose!
