Welcome to My Blog!

Being a teacher is full of ups, downs, and in betweens. I love the look on a students face when they learn how to read. I love when students can solve problems on their own. I absolutely love when students feel proud of their work, and want to share it with the class. This blog is going to be full of moments in the classroom, pictures, and sometimes videos. Take everything with a grain of salt, as it is my opinion & reflections.

An Inspiring Video

I saw this a few months ago, and I thought it was a must-share. This video is moving, and just shows how crucial it is to use technology in the classroom.

What a Monday!

We are reviewing this week, since last week was so crazy. For writing, we are working on revising our work. For reading, we are really focusing on intonation, and expression while reading. In math today, our focus was using different shapes to create another shape. Fun day, so far!

Black History Research

I am impressed that my 1st graders used books and the Internet to research famous African Ameicans. They researched and worked together in groups/pairs to create a poster. I was so impressed! Check it out.

Wacky Wednesday

The Official GLASSES club

Reading with the Reading-Sunglasses
We had a fun day today. I gave all my students SWEET READER checks, which is AWESOME! The kids were really putting their best foot forward today, and showing a lot of effort and improvement with following the rules. We learned all about shapes, vertices, and sides of 2-d figures. I had the kids act out their shape, for example, one student would go to the front of the room, and say "I am a curved shape. I have no vertices, or flat surfaces..." and the kids would raise their hands and say "are you a circle!?"

Newsletter for Week of 2/17/2012

A Glimpse from the Week

We did a Reader's Theatre in groups, which was fun because they practiced their lines, like real professionals!

We also have been learning about 3-D geometrical shapes.

Also, I went to the celebration of one of our students, Jacob. He "graduated" from a tutoring group. So proud of you!

Ruby Bridges Portraits

Ruby Bridges

For Black History month, we are celebrating Ruby Bridges today. So far we have read an amazing "eye watering" story, and made a chart together.
