Welcome to My Blog!

Being a teacher is full of ups, downs, and in betweens. I love the look on a students face when they learn how to read. I love when students can solve problems on their own. I absolutely love when students feel proud of their work, and want to share it with the class. This blog is going to be full of moments in the classroom, pictures, and sometimes videos. Take everything with a grain of salt, as it is my opinion & reflections.

Our 1st Mystery Reader!

I have really tried to get the students fired up about who our weekly Mystery Reader will be, every Thursday. I dropped little clues for them, but nothing beats their faces when our Mystery Reader walked in! It was so exciting for my little boys to see a real life "sheriff" and so informative when my little girls asked all sorts of questions about police dogs, and sirens. (I even learned that officers press a button to open the door in their cop car to release the police dog, if and when needed!)

Sheriff Dawsy was our mystery reader, and he read "Officer Buckle and Gloria," to my firsties--which was sweet because it had everything to do with sticking together with your friends. Also, he showed the kids how the handcuffs worked, and answered a ton of questions. After Sheriff Dawsy left our room (and we gave him a HUGE thank you) we used the "Notes" app on our iPods to reflect on what we learned, and why we thought it was interesting. I am excited to read all of the notes tomorrow!

Showing them the handcuffs!

I am so excited for our weekly readers, and I know the firsties are also!
