Converting Improper Fractions
Today we had a great day! We worked on quickly converting improper fractions into mixed numbers- and made sure we used proper vocabulary in the meantime!

Kid President/What will you do to make the world dance?
After researching osteogenesis imperfecta, we brainstormed words that might describe someone with the disease. Students came up with words like: porcelain doll, easily broken, trapped, limited, confined, delicate, sad, angry. I then showed them a video of a famous child with osteogenesis imperfecta and they couldn't believe that a child who was so inspirational could love with such pain each day! I then posed the question... 'What reason will YOU give the world to dance?' (We then tweeted some of our reasons to kid President!)

Collaborative Science Projects
We worked collaboratively with the GLENNET kids and created LIFE SCIENCE posters. They turned out awesome, and it was really good to watch them work so well together!
Chrome Books
Today in class the students logged on Edmodo, and responded to a question I asked. They also created a News Ela account. Great tech-savvy day in room 117! Also, please sign up for REMIND 101 with the link below to receive quick reminders from me. Thanks! https://www.remind.com/join/fifthsters

Hi/Lo
Today I had the students share at their table their high of the weekend, and their low of the weekend. Once they had a chance to chat, I asked if there was anyone who wanted to share. This hilarious (to say the least) student shared a story of putting a donut in the microwave for 99 seconds. I loved the way she told the story, and the laugher it started our morning with! What a sport to share her 'low' with us for a laugh and lesson!

Daily 5
We practiced the first round of Daily 5 today, when we rolled out 'Read to Self.' It was awesome watching their stamina build so quickly.
5th Grade Flowers
My goodness- 5th grade! I'm so excited about this year and all it has in store! We will so many fun things and make many memories. We were so busy today I forgot to take a photo, but rest assured- we will get them tomorrow! I felt very special this morning to start the day with these beautiful flowers from a student.
