Welcome to My Blog!

Being a teacher is full of ups, downs, and in betweens. I love the look on a students face when they learn how to read. I love when students can solve problems on their own. I absolutely love when students feel proud of their work, and want to share it with the class. This blog is going to be full of moments in the classroom, pictures, and sometimes videos. Take everything with a grain of salt, as it is my opinion & reflections.

Various Methods of Instruction

One of my favorite things about being a teacher is the ability to teach and appeal to various types of learners. Normally, I teach a mini-lesson on the math skill, and the students get to watch a pre-recorded video of me teaching the exact same lesson. After all of the students have had me teach them whole group, the students break up into groups. Some students work collaboratively together, some are with me, some are watching the video I created, and Ms. Bladon has a group. It's the coolest thing, ever!

Author's Celebration & Fiesta

What a day! Let me start off by saying... I love your children! They are precious, and make my heart smile...especially on days like today!

  • We Skyped a class who lives in Williston, Vermont
    • They read their FALL poems to us
    • We exchanged questions and answers about the weather
    • We learned that they will probably get their first snow by November 1st!
  • We celebrated our official "AUTHOR" status! We worked so hard this month to become published authors...and we are! It was exciting to watch the firsties present their stories, and take pride in their hard work. I was so proud of them!
  • A few students created Powerpoints on Hispanic Heritage month, and they were given the opportunity to work on their public speaking skills while sharing their presentations with their peers.
  • Mrs. Ramirez taught the kiddoes how to Salsa dance- and we partnered up and danced! BAILA, BAILA!
  • We had an all out FIESTA listening to music, sampling a variety of foods, and celebrated the fact that we learned SO much this month.
  • Most of all, we learned....Hispanic Heritage Month is NOT to be confused with ASPARAGUS month. ;) I love first graders!

Mystery Reader & Boots!

What a teriffic Thursday! We were stomping the idea of "drugs" with our boots on  today! It was a fun and stylish day, to say the least. We also were able to have Judge Thomas be our Mystery Reader-which was so neat. The kids asked her if she had a hammer....it was a great learning experience, for sure!
